A paternity test is a DNA test that determines whether a man could be the biological father of a child. We all inherit our DNA (the genetic material) from our biological parents. A paternity test compares a child's DNA pattern with that of the alleged father to check for evidence of this inheritance-the most definitive proof of a biological relationship.

The result of a paternity test is either an exclusion (the alleged father is not the biological father), or an inclusion (the alleged father is considered the biological father). For a standard paternity test, we guarantee at least 99.99% probability of paternity for inclusions or 100% certainty of exclusion.

Home DNA Test: People who seek DNA paternity testing for personal information only, may collect their own samples at their convenience and send it to the laboratory for testing. A specimen collection home kit (for collection of cell from inside the cheek by cotton swab) will be sent to you with instruction to collect the specimen and pre-paid mailing envelop for sending the package to our laboratory. The test results will be available in 3-5 working days from the time all specimens are received in the laboratory. The result of this study is NOT admissible in the court of law.
Legal DNA Test: Unlike in-home tests, where tested parties collect their own samples, our legal paternity test uses the Chain of Custody to ensure that you receive accurate and legally admissible results (accepted by courts and other government agencies). In all of our DNA tests, we:
  • Run each test twice, following the most stringent procedures to guarantee accurate and conclusive results.
  • Complete testing in 3-4 working days or less.
  • Follow a strict Chain of Custody to ensure results are legally admissible.
  • Maintain confidentiality of each case using strict communication protocols.

Official proof may be required for many reasons including:

  • Child custody
  • Child support
  • Visitation
  • Social Security benefits
  • Inheritance
  • Immigration
  • Health insurance

We routinely use the painless buccal (cheek) swab to collect samples. We will arrange a sample collection appointment if one of the parties is residing in another state or abroad. Testing of other types of specimens like hair, skin, body fluids, etc., may require Viability Testing for availability of DNA for the test. Collection of fetal specimens, such as umbilical cord blood, amniotic fluid, placenta is done by an OB/GYN specialist. Please call us for additional information.

Our DNA profiling service allows individuals to obtain a record of their genetic profile—a unique combination of 16 markers found in their DNA that serves as a permanent genetic ID. Organizations and private individuals choose to obtain records of their DNA profiles in case identification is ever needed, as in the following examples:

  • Future paternity tests in case of claims on a person's estate
  • To provide a standard for comparison and identification of people in high-risk professions, such as men and women in the military, law enforcement personnel, firefighters, and overseas contractors
  • To assist with the identification of missing persons
  • To give clues about the trail of a missing loved one
DNA samples may be collected either a professional (e.g., at our office) using the Chain of Custody procedure, or privately (self-collection) using our DNA Collection Kit. The Chain of Custody Collection allows you to use the DNA profile in a legal proceeding, such as child support and Social Security benefit claims

An individual’s DNA can also be stored in a secure environment without DNA profiling so that it is available for a future DNA test if needed. When you order DNA profiling, you have the option of DNA banking for no additional charge.

  • Legal DNA Paternity Testing: $375 (One child and one alleged father with or without the mother)
  • Additional Child or Alleged Father: $200 (When the test for all parties done at the same time)
  • Legal Maternity DNA Testing: $375 (For verification of maternity, for instance when doubting switch of babies at the hospital)
  • Collection fee: $0.0 (When specimen collection done at our office)
  • Home DNA Paternity Testing: $275 (One child and one alleged father with or without the mother )
  • Additional Child or Alleged Father: $150 (For Home DNA Testing)
  • Prenatal DNA Paternity Testing: $750 (Not including the cost for fetal specimen collection through amniocentesis or CVS [placental sampling])
  • Viability Testing for one specimen: $250 (Testing for availability of DNA in a specimen like hair root or diaper)

We can use umbilical cord blood taken at birth—this option is less expensive than the prenatal test, which requires special procedures (Amniocentesis or CVS) performed by an OB-GYN. We can also test unusual samples when the father is missing or deceased based on a viability test performed on the samples. The cost is variable based on the type of specimen.
